The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Police has destroyed around 1,000 kg of narcotics seized from Mumbai in the last one year. These include ganja, hashish, mephedrone (MD), cocaine, heroin, methaqualone, MDMA, and ecstasy pills. The narcotics were disposed of at Mumbai Waste Management Ltd.'s project at Taloja in Navi Mumbai. Its price in the international market is around INR 12 crore, the official said. The destroyed narcotics were seized in 201 cases.
Last year, drugs worth INR 4,928 crore were seized from Mumbai. 4036 kg of seized drugs include heroin, hashish, ganja, cocaine, etc. along with MD. About 1018 kg of narcotics were destroyed in Taloja recently after court proceedings.
Mumbai Police's Anti-Narcotics Cell had seized MD worth INR 2500 crore in an operation last year and made a record. Now a charge sheet has been filed against all the eight accused in this case. Shamshulla Khan (38), a smuggler from Shivajinagar area in Govandi, Mumbai, was detained with 250 grams of MD and later arrested.
After that, the Worli Cell of the Anti-Narcotics Department got information about the chain of sale of narcotics. A total of seven accused including Prem Prakash Singh, a chemistry graduate and the main accused in the drug manufacturing and selling gang were also arrested. The police had seized 705 kg of MD worth INR 1,435 crore from them.
