The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will shortly launch the "Jaadui Pitara" (magical box) program, which will provide preschoolers with play-based learning and teaching materials, in an effort to improve the quality of early childhood education.

Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Centre launched the initiative in February 2023 with the goal of making fundamental learning fun and interactive for young children. It will do this by using play-based ways to help them understand letters and numbers.

Within the following two months, the BMC stated, it intends to implement the program in all 1,139 of the preschools it operates in Mumbai. More than 40,000 students will gain from this change, which will give them an enjoyable and productive learning environment.

A contractor has been hired by the municipal office to guarantee its seamless execution. In addition, officials stated that they would start distributing kits as soon as the Standing Committee gave its final approval.

What includes inside the Jaadui Pitara?

Among the many instructional resources included in the Jaadui Pitara kits are toys, puzzles, flashcards, storybooks, playbooks, posters, and instructor manuals. Children between the ages of three and eight can benefit from these tools as they develop their cognitive, social, and emotional abilities as well as their reading and numeracy skills.

In order to foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in young students, the kits also include vibrant graphics and interactive exercises.

Implementing Jaadui Pitara is in line with the BMC's initiatives to improve early childhood education standards and guarantee that pupils in civic schools have a solid foundation for their academic careers.

The BMC Education Officer Rajesh Kankal made the following statement regarding the initiative: The Jaadui Pitara kits are an essential tool for early childhood education. A variety of resources are included to improve fundamental abilities such as reading, writing, and math as well as conceptual comprehension. A comprehensive learning experience is produced by these kits, which also encourage inquiry, critical thinking, and curiosity. To guarantee accessibility for everyone, the kits can easily be downloaded via the Diksha webpage. This will help children enrolled in civic schools.

He went on to say that the Jaadui Pitara kits would be implemented in all BMC-run balwadis and preschools beginning this academic year. Beginning with the upcoming academic year, the kits will be fully implemented and used.

The content was created by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in accordance with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and was initially introduced by the Union Ministry of Education in February 2023.

To reach a larger audience, the initiative's digital version, E-Jaadui Pitara, was launched in November 2023. The program, which is available in 13 languages, offers play-based resources like puzzles, toys, flashcards, storybooks, and instructor materials to meet the needs of India's varied student body.

Through the integration of vibrant images, captivating text, and exercises that prioritise critical thinking, emotional health, and fundamental reading and numeracy, the program emphasises holistic development.
