The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) is planning to install robotics labs powered by artificial intelligence (AI) in every school it operates. The goal is to improve learning for students and bridge the gap between government-funded schools and private institutions.
The project has received INR 1.95 crore in funding from the authority. Earlier, the authority had opened the bids and successfully shortlisted an agency to carry out the work. This is reportedly the first such civic body initiative in the state.
The new labs will feature the latest gadgets and technologies, including robotics kits, microcontrollers, sensors, motors, coding software, building blocks, and safety equipment.
These resources will help students learn how to build technical models and programs in a creative way. Students will learn to build robots and other electronic devices. The labs will also help them improve their coding skills.
Currently, MBMC’s education department runs 36 schools that serve 9,250 students, including 4,625 girls. The schools provide education up to the tenth grade in Marathi, Urdu, Hindi, Gujarati, and semi-English languages.
In 2022, MBMC adopted the Delhi Model for Smart Education in its schools in response to high dropout rates and low enrolment numbers. To address this, the MBMC also introduced 65-inch smart TVs equipped with video conferencing capabilities and Android smartphones. connectivity, and online report access. This has contributed to a rise in school enrolments this last year.
