On Sunday, Mumbaikars witnessed the scorching summer heat which had touched 41 degrees Celsius, the temperature recorded by India Meteorological Department (IMD). According to IMD officials, this was the second highest temperature recorded in the month of March in a decade and the highest in seven years.
Other than this, Mumbaikars suffered a heatwave on Sunday in and around Mumbai and on Monday as well.
March 28, 1956 – 41.7 degrees Celsius (all-time high temperature recorded)
March 17, 2011- 41.3 degree Celsius
March 25, 2018- 41 degrees Celsius
It is due to strong easterly winds and delayed sea breeze. Over the last few days, the winds have been westerly, which are from the sea to the land, and hence cooler. This changed wind pattern may prevail for two days,” Nitha T, scientist, IMD Mumbai.
