Mumbai and its adjoining areas including Navi Mumbai have been experiencing heavy downpour of rainfall and stormy winds for the past three days. Several trees have fallen due to the weather conditions. In addition to this, there have also been incidents of wall collapses and vehicle getting damaged. There is waterlogging and even reports of flash floods from some parts of the city.

In the midst of all this, even the D.Y Patil Stadium suffered huge damages due to heavy rain spells and gusty winds. On Wednesday, a portion of the roof behind the audience section along with a 25-feet long metal structure collapsed at the famous cricket stadium. Fortunately, no injuries were reported due to the incident. The Commissioner of Navi Mumbai, Sanjay Kumar took to Twitter to post the photographs of the collapsed roof of the stadium. He tweeted, “Huge damage to one of the iconic stadiums D Y Patil stadium.”

Apart from the damages suffered by the stadium, two container cranes collapsed at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in the coastal region of Uran. The port operations have since been halted due to the bad weather conditions. It was also reported that a mobile tower fell on the old Vashi bridge leading to a long traffic jam. However, no injuries were reported in any of these incidents.

According to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), the city recorded over 80 mm of rainfall along with 40 tree falls in the last 24 hours. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has asked citizens to stay indoors and venture out only for essential work.
