With a significant rise in the mercury levels over the last week, Mumbai is once again set to simmer. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a rise in maximum temperature over the next couple of days.

It is pertinent to note, last week, the maximum temperature was 33.4° Celsius on January 17. On Sunday, February 23, it reached to 37.2° Celsius, which is 5.2° Celsius above normal.

At the Colaba weather station, the maximum temperature was recorded at 35° Celsius, which is 4.4° Celsius above normal.

The minimum temperature has also seen a gradual rise in the daytime. On Monday, February 24, the Santacruz and Colaba observatory recorded 21 and 22.5 degrees Celsius respectively.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, IMD Mumbai director Sunil Kamble attributed the fluctuations in temperature due to changes in the weather, indicating the arrival of summer in Mumbai. As per the current forecast, the temperature is likely to increase in the next three to four days.

“Eastern winds, which help in reducing the temperature, persist till the afternoon. After that, the wind direction shifts to the northwest, which does not have the ability to reduce the temperature. This change leads to an increase in the daytime temperature,” he explained.

By the end of the week, temperatures are expected to increase in Mumbai. The maximum temperature remain around 36-37 degrees.
