TMC’s Patlipada Organic Farming Project Now Open to Thane Residents

Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) organic farming project at Patlipada, conceived by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has been opened to the general public on the occasion of Agriculture Day. The work on this project was started in April 2025 by the TMC's Parks Department and Tree Authority.


While inaugurating the Vrikshavalli exhibition organised by TMC in February, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had directed Thane Municipal Corporation to set an example for citizens by implementing organic farming projects. Accordingly, under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, the Parks Department has developed this project in an area of about one and a half acres at Patlipada.


The work on this project started in April 2025. It was informally inaugurated on the occasion of Maharashtra Agriculture Day. Park Superintendent Kedar Patil informed that now this project is open to all citizens.The entire management of this project is being done by the Department of Gardens. The organic farming project will provide students and citizens with information and hands-on experience on natural farming, crops, vegetables, fruit trees, use of organic fertilizers, and proper water management. Patil also said that the importance of agriculture can also be understood.


What is in the project?

In this project, various types of vegetables and leafy greens have been cultivated. These include brinjal, okra, tomato, chilli, bell pepper, green and red cabbage, groundnut, sweet potato, elephant foot yam, amaranthus red, fenugreek, bitter gourd, pumpkin and other vine vegetables.

Also, two types of rice and gram are being produced. Meanwhile, fruit trees like mango, lemon, Chinese lemon, avocado, fig, banana, custard apple, lakshman fruit, pomegranate, coconut, etc. have been planted.

An artificial pond has been created in the project area and water lilies and fish have been released into it. In the future, the project plans to include chickens, cows, goats, turkeys and ducks.

Organic products will be given to orphanages and old age homes

To make this initiative of Thane Municipal Corporation useful, the organic products produced in this farm will be given to orphanages and old age homes. The Thane Municipal Corporation's Parks Department and Tree Authority are confident that the Patlipada Organic Farming Project will be an important initiative from an all-round, environmentally friendly, educational, and social perspective.


Open to citizens

This organic farming project of the Municipal Corporation in Patlipada can be visited by citizens from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. Students can also visit schools.
