The response from devotees for immersion in artificial ponds is increasing and the number of Ganesha immersions in artificial ponds has increased by 371 percent in the last eleven years.
Ganeshotsav is just a few days away. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has prepared for this ten-day festival. Brihanmumbai Public Ganeshotsav Coordination Committee had demanded to increase the number of artificial ponds for Ganesha immersion this year. Accordingly, the municipality has increased the number of artificial lakes this year compared to last year. Last year there were 194 artificial lakes and more than 76 thousand Ganesha idols were immersed.
The municipal administration has also provided Shadu clay to the sculptors to celebrate the eco-friendly Ganeshotsav. But still plaster of Paris Ganesha idols are brought in many places. Disposing of Plaster of Paris Ganesha idols in natural water bodies causes water pollution. Therefore, it is requested by the municipal administration that these idols should be immersed in an artificial lake. Also, as the artificial lake is in the vicinity of the house, the home Ganesha idol is becoming convenient for immersion. Therefore, the rate of immersion of idols in artificial lakes is also increasing. Immersion in artificial ponds was forced during the Corona and layoffs. After that, the number of artificial lakes increased.
This year, the list of artificial lakes will be recorded in Google Maps. Also, devotees will get information about artificial lakes through QR code. This QR code will be placed in the visible area outside the pavilion of Ganesha sculptors. There has been an increase of 371 percent in the immersion of Ganesha idols in artificial ponds and the municipality has started creating public awareness for Ganesha devotees to celebrate Ganeshotsav in an eco-friendly manner.
