Mumbai- The first day of Diwali is celebrated as ‘Vasubaras’ which falls on the 12th day of Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin when the moon is in its waning phase. On this day, people observe the death anniversary of Shripad Vallabh- Lord Gurudev Dutt’s reincarnation- by lighting lamps. The cow and her calf are worshipped on this day. Mythologically, one who performs 'deep daan pooja' on Vasubaras will be blessed with longevity for the entire family.
