Amidst the coronavirus outbreak and the lockdown, Maharashtra has kept the spirit of Ganesh Chaturthi high and active. State’s most loved festival Ganeshotsav is being celebrated in a simple way this year and the government had also issued regulations to prevent crowd during Ganpati visarjan. These guidelines were applicable to all the cities.

Moreover, officials from the state government and local municipality offices had arranged for artificial ponds for Ganesh Visarjan, however, members from the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation have come up with a unique concept for this special occasion.

As per reports, artificial ponds are being brought home for Ganpati Visarjan in Vasai, and MLA Hitendra Thakur and MLA Kshitij Thakur have taken the responsibility for the same. As a part of the plan, a total of 72 artificial mobile ponds have been set up in Vasai taluka, whereby these mobile ponds are equipped with vehicles.

Residents who have registered online to perform immersion in one of these ponds, they will get a confirmation regarding the same. Vehicles will be sent to their premises for Ganpati Visarjan, where members can get the benefit of performing all the rituals in their own society. This concept has been implemented across all wards in the municipality.

Meanwhile, in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also created artificial ponds in several areas. Localities like Dadar, Mahim and Dharavi have the facility for mobile artificial ponds.

Similar decisions were taken by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) where 135 artificial ponds have been created for the immersion. Officials have also arranged for the ‘idol collection’ facility from homes which are marked under the containment zones or red zones in Navi Mumbai.

The last day of Ganeshotsav 2020 will be celebrated on September 1, post which CM Uddhav Thackeray-led government is planning to allow some relaxation from the ongoing lockdown. It is also suspected that the Mumbai local trains will resume post this date. Currently, local train services are only being used by staff members of the essential services
