On Monday, the India U20 football team registered a historic win against Argentina in the COTIF Cup. Indian defender Anwar Ali scored the winning goal for India in the match. After which, Mumbai City FC (MCFC) signed the 18-year old for the Indian Super League (ISL) for three years. The young defender has been brought to MCFC from Minerva Punjab.

The Punjab-born defender was playing for Indian Arrows on loan from Minerva Punjab in the last edition of the Indian Super League, but will now be playing for the Islanders. Prior to this, MCFC had coincidentally signed a 34-year old Anwar Ali who also happens to be a defender!
The 18-year old defender is one of India’s best junior players and will be looking to make an impression in the ISL and continue his development.
