Coronavirus Vaccine: 101-year-old man took his first dose at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai

Bengaluru's J Kameshwari became the oldest woman in the country to get vaccinated, the hospital where she got the shots claimed. The 103-year-old did not report any side effect after the vaccine was administered, reports said.

A 101-year-old man, who is a resident of Mazgaon, became the oldest person in Mumbai to be inoculated against coronavirus. Rui de Navarro Menezes (101) took the first dose of the vaccine at Hinduja hospital along with his son Fernando de Navarro Menezes, who is also a senior citizen.

According to Hinduja Hospital, both are happy with the care taken by the hospital. On being asked about any fears to get vaccinated, Fernando Menezes said, "In fact, my father was eager to take the dose when the vaccine became available to the senior citizens. He was very enthusiastic today as well and now we will come back to take another dose of COVID soon."

Earlier in the week, a resident of Churchgate in Mumbai, 100-year-old Shashikala Joshi received the first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine. This September, the centenarian will turn 101.

On March 5, as she took her first dose of the vaccine at Cama and Albless Hospital in Mumbai, she was the centre of attention. She even refused to take the wheelchair and insisted on walking for the registration.

In another incident, a 100-year-old woman, on her birth anniversary, was vaccinated against COVID-19. Prabhavati Khedkar, a centenarian, was given the first jab of the vaccine on March 6 at the BKC jumbo vaccination centre in Mumbai. As the inoculation coincided with her 100th birthday not just she received COVID-19 vaccine shot, the 100-year-old Khedkar also celebrated her birthday with healthcare workers at the vaccination centre.

Meanwhile, a 65-year-old man died minutes after he was given the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in a private hospital in Andheri in Mumbai on Tuesday, a health official said.
