52 cases of elephantiasis have been reported to the health department in Panvel district. In this, 25 patients have been found in Panvel municipal area and 27 in rural Panvel. Since the establishment of the municipal corporation, four new cases have been reported in the municipal area, three in the new Panvel area and one in Navade village. At present, the Municipal Corporation has carried out this search campaign under the elephantiasis disease eradication program by conducting house-to-house surveys through health workers.
Panvel taluka has a population of 13 lakhs. Out of which, the municipal area has a population of 10 lakh. In the Panvel municipal area, along with the villages of Rohinjan, Pendhar, Panvel city Koliwada and Taloja Pachanandnagar area, the highest number of elephantiasis disease patients were found in the municipal survey.
Dr. Anand Gosavi, Medical Health Officer of Panvel Municipal Corporation, said that the disabled patients are being distributed the disabled certificate and the municipality will cooperate for the surgery on these patients. Elephantiasis is a neglected disease in which the symptoms of elephantiasis are seen. Both these diseases are very socially sensitive. After a certain growth in the patient with elephantiasis, the patient's movement is severely restricted. The patient cannot move freely. The extent of this disease can be definitely reduced by undergoing surgery in the hospital for hypertrophy.
Patients with elephantiasis suffer from swelling of the feet and restrictions on the movement of the feet, the patient is unable to move without the help of others. Due to this, the patient gets a kind of disability. According to the provisions of the government decision, such patients are examined and given disability certificates through the district surgeon.
