India’s COVID-19 case tally crosses 1-crore mark with 25,153 new cases Friday, December 18. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 95,50,712 have completely recovered with 95 per cent recovery rate which is the highest percentage globally. The death toll is at 1,45,136 in the country. At present, there are 3,08,751 active cases. According to the ICMR, 16,00,90,514 samples have been tested up to December 18. Last month, the United States became the first country to cross one crore mark of this contagious disease. 

On Friday, December 18, Maharashtra recorded 3,994 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 18,88,767. Currently, there are 60,352 active cases in the state. With 4,467 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 17,78,722.
With the outbreak of the coronavirus,75 people have lost their lives a total of 48,574 people in the state have died owing to the contagious disease. While 5,03,886 persons are under home quarantine, 4,168 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 94.17 per cent, and 2.57 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, Mumbai reported 642 new COVID-19 cases, 355 recoveries and nine deaths on Friday, December 18, 2020, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 2,85,632. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 7,362 active cases which are much lower than earlier and 26,64,456 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 10,970 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 93 per cent. At present 21,64,195 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 260 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 3,491 buildings are sealed by the BMC.
