On the lines of podtaxi in Bandra-Kurla complex, a podtaxi project will also be implemented in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). While the option of pod taxi has been adopted to connect metro stations in MMR with various localities, nearby railway stations, now the ropeway option will also be available. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to connect metro stations in MMR with ropeways. A consultant will be appointed to prepare its detailed plan. The tender process for the appointment of this consultant is currently underway.

A 337 km metro network is being woven in MMR through MMRDA, some of which are currently in service. Some of the routes are likely to be operationalised in the coming years. MMRDA has taken various measures to make it convenient for the passengers to reach their desired destination from the metro stations and to attract the passengers to the metro. As part of that, it has now been decided to connect metro stations in MMR with nearby railway stations and other localities by pod taxi.

The first pod taxi project is being implemented on a pilot basis in BKC. On the same lines, the pod taxi project is going to be implemented in MMR. Sources in MMRDA informed that now along with it, it has also been decided to connect the metro stations with the nearby area directly by rope way. Accordingly, the sources also explained that a detailed plan will be prepared by MMRDA to implement a rope way project with padtaxi in MMR.

A comprehensive plan will be developed after studying which metro stations can be linked by ropeways and which can be connected via pod taxis. Both the ropeway and pod taxi networks will be designed together. A consultant will be appointed for this purpose, and the tender process is currently underway by MMRDA. The integration of these facilities—ropeways, pod taxis, and metros—will significantly improve passenger travel in the near future.
