A dedicated cycling lane is likely to come up between Kalanagar and Vakola. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will implement this project worth INR 21 crore. They invited tenders for the same. It will also include a pedestrian footpath and green space beside the track.

The project is the brainchild of Maharashtra's Environment, Tourism and Guardian Minister Aaditya Thackeray. Earlier this year, Thackeray had said that MMRDA will develop a cycle track along the Western Express Highway (WEH),  just like Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).

Metropolitan Commissioner, SVR Srinivas, while talking to Mid-day, said that Phase 1 of the 2.5 km dedicated cycling track will be three metres wide. There are some gaps where the cycle track will be constructed; therefore, they will fill them with some greenery to beautify the place. They will also provide a footpath for passengers where ever necessary.

The bidders will have to make bids for the project by Monday, December 13. Whoever is appointed for the project will have to complete the project in six months and maintain it for a year.

The cycle track will be constructed between Kalanagar and Vakola on the left of the northbound stretch of the WEH.
