Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday, February 19, announced that the state government will build a memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Agra, where he was kept prisoner.
Chief Minister Fadnavis was speaking at a programme organised in Agra to mark the 395th birth anniversary of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said.
He said he would speak to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in this regard and that the state government would acquire land to build the memorial at a place called Meena Bazar. The memorial will attract more visitors than the Taj Mahal, he added.

Earlier, Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, attended the 395th birth anniversary celebrations of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Shivneri Fort in Junnar, Maharashtra.
In 1666, Shivaji Maharaj and his son Sambhaji escaped from the Agra Fort where they had been confined after a stormy visit to the Mughal court.
