In a recent development in Maharashtra politics, son of a Congress leader joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The inclusion of the opposition leader's son in BJP has set a major upset for Maharashtra Congress prior to the elections. Sujay Vikhe Patil, son of Radha Krishna Vikhe Patil was welcomed into the BJP by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other senior leaders of the party in Mumbai.
Patil's son has been upset over not being awarded the ticket by the party from Ahmednagar, which is said to be the stronghold of the Vikhe Patil family. Sujay Vikhe Patil is a practicing neurosurgeon.

Congress has reportedly finalised its seat-sharing arrangement with Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Maharashtra for the national election. After which, the NCP had turned down a request by Sujay Vikhe Patil's father to leave aside the Ahmednagar seat for his son.
Due to which, the young politician had approached BJP leader Girish Mahajan. After which, he was welcomed to the party in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
This year, Maharashtra will vote in four phases next month, on April 11, 18, 23 and 29.
