Shiv Sena on Tuesday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for celebrating the fourth anniversary of demonetisation announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016.
In an editorial published in ‘Saamana’, Shiv Sena said that celebrating demonetisation was like cutting birthday cake on the graves of those who died. Many people committed suicide and businesses were destroyed after demonetisation of old ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes were announced.
Terming demonetisation as a “black chapter” in India’s history, Shiv Sena said that the note ban and the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) have affected the country’s interest.
While speaking at the Dussehra rally on October 26, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the Prime Minister should admit that GST system has failed while demanding that the old method of tax collection should be restored.
“Celebrating demonetisation which led to suicides, job loss and destruction of trades and industries is like cutting a birthday cake while sitting on the graves of all these people,” the editorial read.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the note ban has helped reduce black money and gave a boost to transparency. Many BJP leaders also celebrated the fourth anniversary of demonetisation.
Amid the ongoing Bihar Assembly Elections, Shiv Sena also took a dig at BJP saying that they failed to click with the people. BJP raised issues like the construction of Ram Mandir and the demise of Sushant Singh Rajput but Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav talked about jobs.
The results for the Bihar assembly elections will be announced on November 10. The counting of votes is underway and shows that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is leading while the Maha Gathbandhan is trailing.
