Mumbai Division of Central Railways (CR) to carry out its first 18-hours mega block on the Thane-Diva stretch for commissioning 5th and 6th line on Sunday, December 19.
According to Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC), the block will commence at around 8 am on Sunday which will continue till 2 am on wee hours of Monday, December 20.
The block will take place as the first phase of the final works for laying two additional rail lines on this stretch will be carried out. However, during block period fast local services will be available between Thane and Diva, apart from that keep in mind passengers convenience of Thane and Diva section, several slow local services will be also operated on the diverted route i.e on fast corridor.
Moreover, owing to the block, the Central Railways have cancelled train on long distance routes. These services will be affected on December 19:

The block will be operated on Up and Dn slow lines from 08.00 hrs of December 19, Sunday to 02.00 hrs of December 20 Monday. Due to this the train running pattern will be as under:

The work of 5th, 6th line project between Thane and Diva (around 9-km stretch) has been ongoing for 11 years now. Initially, it was marred due to encroachments and later technical glitches. The trials will begin after this long work, later it will be opened for the public.
Earlier, on September 26, CR operated special traffic and power block of 10 hours between Kalva-Mumbra Up slow line from 08.00 am to 06.00 pm, in connection with slewing of Up slow line for Thane-Diva 5th & 6th Line.
