Additional 68 local train services run in Mumbai

Data released by the Central Railway states that the department is currently operating 355 special suburban services (Mumbai local trains) for essential service employees, as notified by the Government of Maharashtra. However, with an aim to maintain social distance and avoid congestion, Central Railway, in a recently taken decision, has planned to increase the number of daily special suburban services from 355 to 423.

This was made effective from Thursday, September 24, 2020, and the concerned division has now decided to run additional 68 local trains - 46 services on the Central line and 22 services on harbour line.

The breakdown of additional Mumbai local train services to and from several stations:

• 9 services (5 down and 4 up) to and from Kasara
• 6 services (3 down and 3 up) to and from Kasara-Kalyan
• 9 services (4 down and 5 up) to and from Karjat
• 2 services (1 down & 1 up) to and from Thane-Karjat
• 2 services (1 down and 1 up) to and from Kalyan/Karjat
• 3 services (2 down and 1 up) to and from Ambernath
• 5 services (2 down and 3 up) to and from Kalyan
• 4 services (2 down & 2 up) to and from Thane
• 6 services (3 down and 3 up) to and from Kurla
• 14 services (8 down & 6 up) to and from Panvel
• 8 services (3 down and 5 up) to and from Vashi

Total number of trains to and from stations in Mumbai:

• 72 services (37 down and 35 up) to and from Thane
• 24 services (11 down and 13 up) to and from Dombivli
• 14 services (7 down and 7 up) to and from Kurla
• 82 services (41 down and 41 up) to and from Kalyan
• 20 services (10 down and 10 up) to and from Titwala
• 41 services (21 down and 20 up) to and from Kasara
• 45 services (22 down and 23 up) to and from Karjat
• 24 services (12 down and 12 up) to and from Badlapur
• 7 services (4 down & 3 up) to and from Ambernath
• 84 services (43 down and 41 up) to and from Panvel
• 8 services (3 down and 5 up) to and from Vashi
• 2 services on Trans Harbor Line (1 down and 1 up) to and from Vashi

Central Railway, as directed by the Government of Maharashtra, had introduced selected services of special suburban trains in Mumbai from June 15, 2020. However, with services and daily life resuming under the 'Mission Begin Again' initiative, services have been gradually increased for the convenience of passengers, with an aim to avoid congestion and by maintaining social distancing. All passengers travelling by the local have been asked to adhere to the norms and wear masks in public and also while travelling in the local trains.
