Director Milap Zaveri earlier took to Twitter to share his condolences and wrote, "Heartbreaking news that Nishikant Kamat passed away. He judged My 1st play ever in Jaihind College where he awarded me best actor and writer. He was gonna direct “Sanak” written by @shiekhspear and me, starring @juniorbachchan Sadly the film didn’t happen. Will miss him."
However, later he confirmed, "Just spoke to someone who is with Nishikant in the hospital right now. He hasn’t passed away yet. Yes, he is v critical and fighting life and death. But he is still alive." In the following tweet, Milap said, "Sadly the end seems inevitable anytime soon. But as of now, Nishikant is still on ventilator."

Kamat is 50 years old and known for films like Drishyam, Madari, Lai Bhaari and many others. His work, both as a director and actor has been well-appreciated by fans and the film industry.
His debut as a director was with Marathi film Dombivali Fast which earned him appreciation in film making, especially in the Marathi film industry and it became the biggest Marathi film in 2005. The same film was remade in Tamil and that too received impressive reviews.
He was also seen as an actor in films like Julie 2, Hava Aaney De, Bhavesh Joshi and many others. As per reports, his film Darbadar is expected to release in 2022.
