With Ganeshotsav approaching in just two days, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) administration has given permission to 149 of the 307 mandals who applied for Ganeshotsav mandals. The remaining 158 mandals have not yet been given permission but the process of giving permission to these mandals is going on, sources said.
Ganpati festival is celebrated on a large scale in the Thane municipal area. The municipal administration has made regulations for mandals as per the guidelines of the High Court. According to this regulation, the mandals have to apply to the municipal administration for construction of the mandap and after inspecting it, the municipal administration approves the construction of the mandap. In this, the boards have to take no objection certificates from the traffic police, local police and fire department.
Only after this certificate, the final permission for construction of the mandap is given by the municipality. But as this process delays getting the permission, the mandals get less time to construct the mandap. Therefore, to make this process easier, the municipality started implementing a window scheme as per the demand of the boards. Also, the municipality is providing the facility to apply online and offline.
This year too, although the TMC has provided similar facilities to the boards, it is seen that there is a delay in it. In this background, the applications for permission from the boards should be routed immediately to the ward committee level after taking necessary permission and no objection certificate from the public works department, police, traffic police, fire brigade.
Additional Commissioner Rode had ordered that the Assistant Commissioner and DMC should review on a daily basis whether there is any delay in the amount of permission given. Even after this, it has come to light that 158 mandals are waiting for permission even though Ganeshotsav is just two days away.
