A 24-year-old girl lost her life while riding a two-wheeler from Palaspe to JNPT at 5:55 pm on Sunday. The young woman was riding a bike along with her friend on Nandgaon bridge on the Palaspe to JNPT route when the wheel of the bike hit a big pothole and both of them fell off the bike. 24-year-old Mansi Rokade passed away after coming under the wheel of a trailer coming from behind.
Mansi, who lives in Mhada Colony in Ghopadev, Mumbai, along with his friend Adesh Lad, was returning home from Matheran to Mumbai on a two-wheeler when the accident took place on Sunday. Although the Palaspe to JNPT road is made of concrete, it also has potholes at places. Both of them were thrown off at the right side of the road when the wheel of the two-wheeler came over a pothole near Nandgaon bridge. Meanwhile, a trailer (No. MH 43, U. 1673) was coming at full speed behind the bike of Adesh. Mansi's body came under the wheel killing her on the spot.
The driver fled the scene without assisting the victim. A case has been registered against the trailer driver in Panvel city police station. But if the potholes in the road had been filled in time, Mansi's life would have been saved. This highway comes under the jurisdiction of the National Highway Authority. It is said by the police that no action has been taken by the Panvel city police against the government authority. Police are looking for the trailer driver.
