On Monday, February 21, for the first time in 22 months, Mumbai reported less than 100 daily coronavirus cases.
According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s health bulletin, the city recorded 96 new cases of COVID-19, which is the lowest single-day rise after April 17, 2020. In April 2020, 77 people were diagnosed with COVID-19.

With this, the overall case count rose to 10,55,675.

Meanwhile, it has also come to light that the city has also registered lowest active COVID-19 count since cases started rising due to the pandemic in April 2020.

Active cases stood at just 1,415, a sharp drop from 1.17 lakh a month ago. On April 14, 2020, the figure was at 1,478.
Besides, after reporting zero COVID-related deaths for several days, Mumbai logged one fatality in the past 24 hours. The person, who succumbed to the virus, had co-morbidities and was above the age of 60. The overall death toll stands at 16,688.
Moreover, in other parts of MMR, Thane city reported 22 new Covid-19 cases. Among the new cases, 11 people tested positive in Majiwada-Manpada, five in Uthalsar, two in Vartak Nagar and one in Wagale.
Kalyan-Dombivli region reported six new cases, 17 recoveries and zero deaths.
Among the new cases, two people tested positive in Kalyan east, one in Kalyan west, two in Dombivli east, and one in Manda-Titwala.
However, with the significant drop in new and active cases, the Maharashtra government aims to make the state and city mask-free. The state government will soon decide to provide further relaxations and might lift all the COVID-related protocols.
