The Maharashtra government on Tuesday, March 18, transferred five more IAS officers and appointed Aanchal Goyal as the new district collector for Mumbai city. The position had been vacant since the transfer of Sanjay Yadav last month.
Nearly 15 days ago, some district collectors and municipal commissioners were transferred and now again 5-6 IAS officers have been transferred.
Among these transfers, Aanchal Goyal, the additional municipal commissioner of Nagpur has been promoted to Mumbai city and appointed as the District Collector of Mumbai. Interestingly, this development comes at a time when Nagpur city is in the news for communal tension between two groups.
Goyal’s husband, Nimit Goyal, is a DCP in the Mumbai Police.
Who is Aanchal Goyal?
Goyal, a 2014-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, has held several key administrative roles in the state. She has previously served as the CEO of Ratnagiri Zilla Parishad and as Joint Managing Director of Mumbai Film City. With this appointment, she joins a list of distinguished women IAS officers who have held the post, including Sharwaree Gokhale, Valsa Nair Singh, Ashwini Joshi, I A Kundan, Shaila A and Sampada Mehta.
Before her recent posting in Nagpur, Goyal served as the District Collector of Parbhani and CEO of Ratnagiri Zilla Parishad. She took charge as Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Additional Commissioner on July 31, 2023, and also held the additional charge of CEO at Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Ltd (NSSCDCL).
During her tenure at NMC, she managed crucial departments such as solid waste management, health, education, social welfare, IT, transportation, property tax, traffic and parks.
Under her leadership, NMC saw major advancements, including the digitisation of waste vehicle monitoring, the establishment of health centers, and record property tax collections. She also introduced a mid-day meal program for pre-primary students, developed new parks and spearheaded the overall digital transformation of NMC’s administrative systems.
Her appointment as Mumbai City Collector is expected to bring her extensive experience in urban governance and technology-driven reforms to the financial capital’s administrative framework.
