On the first visarjan of 1.5 days, the R-South ward, covering Kandivali East and West, recorded the highest number of immersions in artificial ponds, with 3,318 idols submerged.

A total of 66,339 Ganesh idols were immersed in Mumbai for the 1.5-day Visarjan on Sunday through the early hours of Monday. As per Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, 30,558 of these were immersed in artificial ponds, while 35,781 were submerged in natural water bodies.

In Mumbai, citizens can perform the Visarjan in 263 locations spread across the city. Of these, 189 are artificial ponds, and 74 are natural settings like lakes and beaches. BMC built the artificial ponds to offer an environmentally friendly option for idol immersions.

As per BMC data obtained by FPJ, on the first visarjan of 1.5 days, the R-South ward, covering Kandivali East and West, recorded the highest number of immersions in artificial ponds, with 3,318 idols submerged. It was followed by K-East Ward (Andheri East) with 3,248 idols. K-west ward (Andheri West) had 2,409 immersions.

As far as visarjans on natural spots are concerned, K-West ward saw the highest number with 5324. This was followed by S ward and D ward, with 4251 and 3559 Visarjans, respectively.

In total, there were 7733 immersions in K-west ward. R-south ward and S ward followed with 6113 and 5409. P-north ward and R-central ward had 5104 and 5049 immersions, respectively.

The western suburbs have the highest number of artificial ponds. P-South ward, which covers Goregaon, has the most with 18 ponds. It is followed by P-North (Malad) with 13 ponds, R-South (Kandivali) with 12, R-North (Dahisar) with 7, H-East (Bandra East) with 4, and H-West (Bandra West) with 1.

In the eastern suburbs, S ward (Bhandup) has the most artificial ponds with 13. N ward (Ghatkopar) follows with 7, while M-West (Chembur West) and T ward (Mulund) have 4 each. L ward (Kurla) and M-East (Chembur East) have 1 each.

South Bombay also has several artificial ponds. F-South ward, which includes areas like Lalbaug and Parel, has 15 ponds. E ward (Byculla) follows with 13 ponds, D ward (Malabar Hill) has 10, and F-North ward (Sion Matunga) has 7. C ward (Kalbadevi), B ward (Masjid), and A ward (Colaba) have fewer, with 3, 3, and 2 ponds, respectively.
