According to the latest reports, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administrator, Iqbal Singh Chahal hasn’t constituted committees to clear financial proposals as well as undertake other policy decisions.
Based on accounts, a scrutiny committee will be constituted to be led by Chahal to clear financial transactions similar to the statutory standing committee. It has been reported that Chahal mentioned that he will require another two to three days to curate the committee.
Previously, a committee that included four additional municipal commissioners were made to help the commissioner in their daily functions.
All committees that included the statutory standing committee, improvement and law committees which had corporators as their members, ceased on March 7, when the term of the corporators ended.
Moreover, Chahal had recently approved the proposal that political parties could keep their offices open in the BMC in order to ensure that citizens can approach them with civic problems in their vicinity.
In the BMC headquarters., Shiv Sena, BJP, Congress, NCP and Samajwadi Party have their party offices. On the issue of OBC reservation, the state government passed a resolution in the Legislative Assembly that local body polls will not be held without OBC reservation. Therefore, the redrawing of wards has been ordered.
