On the occasion of World Disaster Risk Reduction Day, Mumbai's civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has imparted emergency management training to 900 people in a public awareness program.
This initiative is implemented every year keeping in view various incidents regarding the same. This year, for the first time, training workshops were organized on the backdrop of the contagious disease coronavirus.
Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) Shri. Suresh Kakani guided all the trainees on the importance and need for disaster management through a vision system. About 850 trainees participated in the training workshops under the guidance of Prabhat Rahangdale, while 40 trainees participated directly.
Moreover, three training workshops were organized by the Disaster Management Training Center at Parel. The first workshop was attended by 150 students and teachers from the Nursing College of Bharati University. In the second workshop, 82 teachers and 318 students from municipal schools i.e. a total of 399 trainees participated.
The third workshop was attended by 300 people belonging to the NGO 'Tech Mahindra Foundation'. At the same time, 40 trainees participated in the traditional direct training conducted in the 'B' section of the Municipal Corporation. This included local citizens and municipal employees. However, this direct training was conducted in strict adherence to the COVID-19 preventive measures which included maintaining social distance, wearing face masks etc.
