The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is going to build two fire stations on Mumbai Coastal Road's reclaimed land. The goal is to provide firefighters with faster access to emergency sites in both the city and its suburbs. The fire stations will be constructed to increase safety along the 10.58 kilometre stretch.

The reclaimed land spans 90 hectares and will also include gardens and parking facilities. The Mumbai Fire Brigade has recommended building fire stations in response to safety concerns. As per reports, the project is in its early stages and requires several clearances. The exact locations of the fire stations are still being determined.

The Coastal Road project, stretching from the Princess Street Flyover at Marine Drive to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, will significantly reduce travel time. Commuters will save up to 35 to 40 minutes as travel time is expected to drop from 45 to 50 minutes to just 10 to 12 minutes. Multi-level interchanges at locations like Worli Sea Face, Peddar Road, and Haji Ali are also included in the plan.

Residents living near the Coastal Road, including those from Breach Candy and Napean Sea Road, had earlier raised concerns about increased noise pollution. They have reported issues with motorbikes and cars using the road for speeding, turning it into an informal racecourse.

To address these issues, the BMC plans to hire a maintenance contractor. The contractor will monitor speeding two-wheelers and food delivery vehicles. They will also deploy patrol vans and towing services to assist the traffic police. Other responsibilities include painting, signage installation, and building dividers along the road.

The Coastal Road is scheduled to fully open on January 26, 2025. However, plans to install 70 speed detection cameras have not yet been approved. The cameras are expected to be installed by May 2025. This will curb speeding and help traffic police enforce laws against violations.
