Bombay High Court on Monday announced that the petitions challenging Maratha reservation will be heard on January 18. Along with this, the court has also extended the date to submit affidavits regarding the same till Jan 18.
After Maharashtra government cleared the Maratha reservation bill in the state assembly winter session earlier granting 16 per cent reservation to the Maratha community under Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC), Advocates Jayshree Patil and Gunaratna Sadavarte filed a petition challenging the same.

The petition stated that the reservation provided by the Maharashtra government to Maratha community in education and jobs exceeds the 50 per cent reservation quota bar and violates the Supreme Court’s decision.
