Central Railways detects and penalizes 25,600 passengers for not following COVID-19 appropriate behaviour. Central Railway, in following the COVID-19 protocol as per the Government’s directives and sensitizing the passengers to take all precautions while travelling, has conducted massive ticket checking drives, saving revenue loss of INR 71.25 crores from April to September-2021 and detected 12.47 lakh cases of irregular travel.

From April 1, 2021, to September 30, 2021, an aggregate of 12.47 lakh cases of ticketless/irregular travellers was detected in suburban ad non-suburban trains (long-distance trains) trains and an amount of INR 71.25 crores was realized as a penalty. This is highest in terms of revenue among all Zonal Railways.

From April 17, 2021 to September 30, 2021, special teams of ticket checking personnel detected and penalized a total of 25,610 cases of non-compliance of COVID-19 appropriate behaviour. A total of 20,570 cases of passengers not wearing masks and 5,040 cases of people not allowed to travel as per COVID-19 guidelines were detected and an amount of INR 34.74 lakhs and INR 25.20 lakhs respectively were realized as fine.

Central Railway’s intensive and regular ticket checking drives are conducted in suburban and non-suburban or Mail Express trains to ensure that only bonafide passengers travel in trains per Government guidelines and follow coronavirus protocol.

While performing their duties, the Ticket Checking Staff exhibited utmost courtesy and civil behaviour leading to a reduction in complaints. In addition to this, they have also united lost children with their parents on numerous occasions.

They have appealed to the passengers to travel with proper and valid railway tickets to avoid inconvenience and travel with dignity and follow all norms mandated for coronavirus.
