Coronavirus cases in Maharashtra have been increasing rapidly, and on August 19, 2020, a total of 346 people passed away due to the viral infection. These figures have increased the worries for several administrative departments in the government.
However, COVID-19 cases in Mumbai have gradually reduced, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has gained some control over the spread of the virus. As of Wednesday, a total of 1132 new patients were found in Mumbai, with 46 deaths reported in one day. Currently, Mumbai has the second-highest coronavirus cases in the state. With this, the tally for the city has now reached 1,31,542 cases. Further, 864 patients have recovered from coronavirus taking the count to 1,06,057 recovered patients. These numbers have brought a sigh of relief.
Data for the state of Maharashtra shows that a total of 9,011 patients recovered from the infection on Wednesday, taking the recovery rate to 71.09 per cent, with 4,46,881 patients treated successfully. However, on the other hand, the state also witnessed the highest single-day jump with 13,165 new patients being diagnosed with the infection. Out of the total number of cases in Maharashtra, 1,60,413 patients are actively being treated. The information was shared by the State Health Minister, Rajesh Tope.
Meanwhile, officials have tested 33,37,848 samples so far, out of which 6,28,642 samples have tested positive, which means that the state has 18.83 per cent positive cases. A total of 11,62,450 people are under home quarantine in the state, and 37,094 people are under the institutional quarantine.
