The Indian Civil Defence Code Act makes the use of forensic evidence mandatory for crimes punishable with 7 years or more.
Maharashtra becomes the first state in the country to make mobile forensic vans a major part of these reforms and this facility will soon be made available at 259 locations across the state. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated these vans on Monday afternoon, January 27, in Mumbai.

Aim to launch 259 mobile forensic vehicles
A total of 259 mobile forensic vehicles will be launched in the state. Of these, 21 fully equipped vehicles have already come into operation. The crime scene application will investigate the crime scene using blockchain technology. In this, evidence will be collected and secured through barcodes.
Fadnavis said that these vehicles will be useful in collecting and analyzing evidence to help solve crimes at a faster pace.
Features of Vehicle:
These vehicles will be able to collect the necessary evidence in crimes like blood, DNA and rape.
Experts and support staff will be present. Apart from this, special equipment will be available for detecting explosives and investigating cyber crime.
These vehicles will be equipped with CCTV and will be connected to the police system. This will make it possible to provide information about the evidence collected for the crime to the concerned police station. This will make the evidence collection process more efficient and accurate.
No one will be able to save the accused from punishment if evidence is destroyed or tampered with. This will help keep an eye on the criminals and increase the number of crimes proven.
