The Mumbai Division of Central Railway, in a remarkable achievement, successfully operated a record 226 trips of Diwali/Chhath special trains in 2024, a significant increase from the 130 trips operated in 2023.
This milestone is a testament to the unwavering dedication and teamwork of the Mechanical/Electrical, TRO, and Operating departments. The Commercial department staff and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) also played a pivotal role in ensuring seamless operations and a hassle-free experience for passengers.
The first special train service commenced on October 19, 2024, and the last trip concluded on November 29, 2024. This monumental operation was made possible with the deployment of 18 scratch rakes and 4 lie-over rakes, which facilitated the smooth running of these special trains during the festive season.
The Matunga and Parel Workshops played a critical role in ensuring the timely availability of POH (Periodic Overhaul) coaches, which were instrumental in meeting the increased demand for Diwali specials.
This collective effort has set a new benchmark for festive train operations by the Mumbai Division, not only addressing the increased passenger demand during the festive season but also enhancing the image of Indian Railways.
The success of this initiative underscores the commitment of the Central Railway team in providing efficient and passenger-friendly services during peak travel periods.
