On Wednesday, February 9, Maharashtra Tourism Minister, Aaditya Thackeray inaugurated a viewing deck named, “Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Smruti viewing deck” next to Chaityabhoomi in Dadar. While interacting with media persons, Thackeray elaborated on how Mumbai has nearly 40 such stormwater drain outfalls.

He added that apart from the one at Dadar, there is also one at Nariman Point and work is also underway at the one in Walkeshwar. With an outfall at Shivaji Park for years to an end, junior Thackeray elucidated on how this led to demands of a pleasant location since many people visit the vicinity with Chaityabhoomi also nearby.

This induced questions about a place to sit or wander for a bit from local citizens and tourists who would often roam in the area, remarked Thackeray. Amidst open spaces being an intensely discussed issue lately, the cabinet minister mentioned that with the assistance of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) the said viewing deck has been constructed.

While speaking with reporters, the minister elaborated on how 40 such spots across Mumbai will be beautified so that people will have a place to sit, walk, do yoga during different times in the day. He credited these efforts to civic officials. He juxtaposed the initiative to the recent BMC budget wherein Tactical Urbanism received focus that include small interventions such as the safe schools zone initiative.
