On Wednesday night a level II fire broke out at Hotel Fortune, in Dhobi Talao near Metro Cinema. The fire started on the second floor at around 11 PM and it then spread to other floors via electric ducts.
Fortune Hotel is a four-storey hotel. According to the reports, the fire was said to be confined to only to the electric wiring and cables in the entire electrical duct and to the false ceiling in the lobby and common passages area on first, second and third floors.
There were 25 people that were trapped inside the hotel. They have been rescued by the firemen. These 25 people were all doctors from JJ Hospital and were residing in Hotel Fortune as a precautionary measure.
As soon as the fire was reported, five fire engines and four water tankers were deployed for the operation.
So far the cause of the fire has not been ascertained.
