Two experts from VJTI Institute have reported that the giant panel in Chheda Nagar area of Ghatkopar fell down due to weak foundation and faulty structure. Mumbai is at risk of gale force winds. However, these two experts have recently given a report to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) municipal administration that the structural construction of this advertisement board was not strong enough to withstand strong winds.

On May 13, more than 10 people were killed when a giant advertisement board fell in Chheda Nagar, Ghatkopar. The BMC took the help of VJTI to find out the technical reason behind this accident so that such an incident does not happen in the future. For that, the municipal administration had written a letter to the head of the structural engineering (structural engineering) department of the institution.

The letter requested for this study to find out the technical reason behind the accident. Head of Structural Engineering Department Keshav Sangle and Dr Abhay Bambole have recently submitted their report after studying the technical causes of the accident.

The billboard could only withstand a wind speed of 49 km per hour. But on May 13, winds were blowing at a speed of 87 km per hour. The report concluded that the panel could not stand due to this wind. The report also said that since the city of Mumbai is close to the sea coast, the panels should be designed in such a way that it can withstand a gale of 158 km per hour. But the Ghatkopar advertisement board was not strong. According to the report, the panel fell due to faulty structure.

This plaque fell on Mahendra Kurle (62). He was injured in this accident. After that, he filed a case against the developer of Jayakiran Construction and its associates in the Malad Police Station.

After the Ghatkopar tragedy, the municipality stepped up action against unauthorised hoardings and removed many unauthorised hoardings. The municipality is still working to remove the unauthorised boards. Meanwhile, the Jayakiran company had not taken necessary precautions in terms of safety at the construction site. After that notice was sent.
