The construction of a new terminus in Jogeshwari began a year ago, with INR 70 crore being earmarked by Western Railway (WR). However, the railway ground in Jogeshwari still looks like a dumpyard.

The slow progress has led to garbage and muck buildup. Pre-monsoon rains worsened the situation. Workers from nearby companies have reported bad odours. Huge piles of trash can be seen at the east side of Ram Mandir station.

The excavation work led to a lot of muck over time. As per reports, authorities are removing waste using special trains.

The Railway Board had also approved a multi-crore repair yard project near the terminus. It will serve Vande Bharat AC sleeper trains. But labour shortages slowed the work. Lack of nearby housing were attributed for the delay. Work stopped entirely at one point.

Now, it has resumed with a new deadline of December 2025. The original completion date was June 2024. A WR official stated only 25 per cent of the work is done.

The Jogeshwari terminus will serve long-distance trains from the northwest and north. Plans include a cargo shed and repair facility for Vande Bharat trains. Civil works will cost an extra INR 36 crore. This covers the track building, foot overbridge, booking office, approach road, control tower, and platform.

The terminus will have good access via the Western Express Highway. It will be served by suburban and metro lines, including Line 6 and Line 7. Twelve trains will move to Jogeshwari from Mumbai Central and Bandra terminus.

The terminus will have an island platform to manage two trains at once. Currently, Mumbai has six railway terminuses, three each on the Western and Central Railways.
