The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to provide food plaza and petrol pump facilities at Navi Mumbai end (Jasai) of the Atal Setu. The process is underway for this facility and will be operational in the next few months.
According to the plans, a combination of the facility will come up on either side of Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, India’s longest sea bridge.
MMRDA built a 21.80 km long sea bridge to cover the distance from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai in just 12 minutes. This bridge came into service from January 2024.
An average of over 22,000 vehicles ply on this bridge per day. This sea bridge has made travel very fast. However, there is no food or fuel facility available for drivers and passengers while traveling on the sea bridge.
Considering this, MMRDA officials informed that now MMRDA has decided to develop a food plaza and petrol pump on Atal Setu. Both these facilities will be developed through a private company. Accordingly, the process for this is underway from October 2024. Officials also said that discussions are underway with a private company for this.
At present, there are no such facilities available in the immediate vicinity of the sea link, making it inconvenient for a motorist and keeps them on the outlook before entering or exiting the sea link.
