The total amount owed to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) in power bills has now surpassed ₹1,000 crores, as per sources quoted by TOI.
The agency has disconnected the power supply of more than 2 lakh customers over non-payment of dues in 2021. Most of these accounts have pending dues since June 2020.

The total money owed from the Bhandup zone which covers Bhandup-Mulund, Thane, and Vashi, totalled ₹137 crores.
Meanwhile, residential customers in the Kalyan zone reportedly owed more than ₹350 crores, including ₹183 crores from Kalyan-Dombivli and ₹103 crores from the Vasai-Virar region. The Kalyan zone also includes Karjat/Kasara and Palghar.
Some of the other non-paying customers fall under industrial, commercial, and other categories. These pending dues have made a big dent in the MSEDCL’s revenues.
“The drive to recover arrears will continue and more connections are expected to be discontinued temporarily this week in order to speed up recovery,” a senior official was quoted as saying.
The official added that the MSEDCL bill payment counters will remain functional on holidays to speed up the recovery of dues.
