Originally an outpost of the Mauryan empire, Mulund has an ancient history dating back to when it was known as Muchchalind, along with nearby suburbs. Crown & Carter, a German architectural firm, envisioned a gridiron plan for Mulund that extended from the present-day railway station to Panch Rasta in 1922. Small businesses, traders, and markets sprung up around the Railway station during the early days when the region started to prosper. Mulund has gradually transformed into one of the best-planned suburbs in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

While Mulund was part of the neighbouring Thane city until the early 1950s, Bombay Municipal Corporation took over Mulund as part of its expansion plans in 1956. A perfect mix of convenience and leisure was left behind when the industrial units left Mulund after the liberalization era. Over time, Mulund became a successful cosmopolitan city that became home to a mix of middle-class residents, industrialists, and pharmaceutical companies.

Skyscrapers, commercial complexes, and shopping malls replaced the old structures, while the lush greenery of the area remained. This transformation is most visible along the Goregaon - Mulund Link Road (GMLR) and Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg (LBS), which has been lined with shopping malls and hospitals. This city is known for its vibrant nightlife and has numerous leisure and entertainment options such as PVR, Carnival Cinemas, Mulund Gymkhana, among others. Moreover, the region is home to a strong civic and social infrastructure, including well-known schools such as St. Mary’s School and DAV International school and cafes like Starbucks and Coffee by Di Bella.

Mulund is a thriving social and entertainment epicentre, located at the foothills of Sanjay Gandhi National Park. There is no doubt that Prince of the Suburbs has earned its title as it is well planned and seamlessly connected to Powai and Thane via LBS road and the rest of the city through the Eastern Express Highway. Mulund is more than a charming and idyllic location; it has become one of the most popular residential investment destinations in Mumbai.

In recent years, Mulund has seen a sharp rise in its infrastructure, including the Eastern Expressway and Airoli-Mulund Bridge, thus making the commute to the important business districts and recreation centres around Thane and Navi Mumbai simpler and more convenient for its residents. As part of the infrastructure development, several projects are planned such as the proposed 14km Goregaon-Mulund Link Road which will smoothen the connectivity to western suburbs and help reach commercial hubs in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane in just 30 minutes. Mulund will also be one of the stops on Mumbai Metro’s upcoming Line 4 between Wadala and Thane which will improve the connectivity of the region to the airport and other areas of Mumbai. These major infrastructure projects coming up in the region will get the city-goers even closer.

Over the past couple of years, Mulund has been a burgeoning residential and commercial community, serving as an excellent investment option for prospective homebuyers. There have been many residential developments and a rise in home sales in Mulund. The locality also offers homebuyers a balanced, holistic lifestyle that further enhances their health. Mulund has developed into a cosmopolitan hub with middle-and upper-class residents. Several reputable developers such as Piramal Realty are building luxury homes being equipped with world-class amenities in Mulund. Piramal Revanta, the project by Piramal Realty, meets the needs of buyers and encompasses modernity and cultural diversity. With Mulund transforming into the next-generation suburb, millions of homebuyers can now enjoy the dream of living in Mumbai as Mulund becomes the suburb of the future.
