The Mumbai Coastal Road project’s north section will now extend to Dahisar. Earlier, it was planned to connect to Bangur Nagar in Goregaon. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a public notice asking for objections or suggestions from the public within 30 days, after which a public hearing will be conducted.
BMC has also released a notification regarding land reservation for this expansion.
- 60 plots between Goregaon and Dahisar will be used for the project.
- Around 70% of these parcels belong to the Maharashtra government.
- Some parts fall under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), which makes them undevelopable.
- The rest are privately owned.
The Mumbai North Coastal Road will cover about 17.6 km. It will run from the interchange at Versova and Bandra sea link to the Dahisar interchange. Including the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) connector, the total project length will be 22 km.
The planned road from GMLR to Dahisar will be 11.4 km long. The road width will vary between 36.6 metres and 53 metres. Interchanges and connectors will span a total length of 3.5 km, with widths ranging from 10 metres to 40 metres. This section will pass through Malad, Kandivali, Borivali, and Dahisar.
A consultant’s survey determined the road’s alignment. Land acquisition is necessary and must be included in DP-2034. Currently, DP-2034 covers the 5.6 km stretch from Versova to the GMLR connector. For the remaining section from GMLR to Dahisar, modifications will be done under Section 37(1) of the Maharashtra Regional & Town Planning Act, 1966.
