Mumbai Metro to start from October 15

According to guidelines issued by the government, the shops and markets will be permitted to open for another two hours - from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

The Maharashtra government on Wednesday allowed the metro trains to operate from October 15 in a graded manner and the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the same will be released by the Urban Development department. 

Apart from this, the Maharashtra government has allowed public and private libraries to operate from Thursday while following COVID-19 protocols of social distancing and sanitation. 

Moreover, business to business (B2B) exhibitions has been allowed followed by local weekly markets - including that of animals. SOPs for the same will be issued by the concerned departments. 

According to guidelines issued by the government, the shops and markets will be permitted to open for another two hours - from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. This has been done to control the crowd. The domestic passengers coming to Maharashtra via flights and trains will not be stamped from October 15. 

Higher education institutions will be permitted to open from Thursday but only for research scholars and post-graduation students in science and technology stream requiring laboratory works. 

Cinema halls, swimming pools, gyms, schools and educational institutions will remain shut. Moreover, political, social and cultural gatherings are also prohibited. There has been no decision on reopening places of worship. 

Meanwhile, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government allowed the restaurants and bars to operate from October 5. 

The order comes amid the tussle between Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray over the issue of reopening of temples.

On Monday, Koshyari questioned the government’s decision to keep the places of worship closed in Maharashtra. He further questioned Thackeray’s commitment to Hindutva and mocked him for turning ‘secular’.
