Complete information about trees planted by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) on Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro 3 route will now be easily available to citizens. The MMRC has taken up geo-tagging of trees planted or replanted along the Metro 3 route. Through this geo-tagging, by scanning the QR code on the trees, all the information from the name of the tree to the height of the trees will be available to the citizens. The work of geo tagging is going on at a fast pace and so far geo tagging of more than 2000 trees has been completed.
A large number of trees have been felled for the Metro 3 route and for the Aarey carshed. A big controversy has also arisen over the felling of these trees. As a rule, the tree-cutting system has to replace the trees that are felled by planting multiple trees and keeping them alive. At that time there was a dispute regarding the trees planted and replanted by MMRC. It is always objected to by environmentalists. A contractor has been appointed and the work of geo-tagging of all the trees planted outside the metro station during the Metro 3 route has started.
So far geo-tagging of more than 2000 trees has been completed by MMRC. A QR code has been applied on it and the work of applying QR code on the rest of the trees is going on. By scanning the QR code on the tree, citizens will get the height, size, species, name and other related information of the trees. MMRC has clarified that information about how many and which trees have been planted by MMRC will be available and transparency in the tree replanting process will be made available. Meanwhile, the MMRC has appealed to the citizens not to touch the QR code placed on the trees and not to tear the QR code.
