Mumbai University has issued show cause notices to KJ Somaiya Arts and Commerce, SK Somaiya Arts, Science and Commerce and KJ Somaiya Science and Commerce Colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai. A complaint was made against the college that the fees were charged five times more than the tuition fees fixed by the university. Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena state chief organiser Santosh Gangurde had complained about this. In the show cause notice sent by the University of Mumbai to Somaiya College, it has been mentioned that an explanation should be submitted to the Deputy Chancellor of the College Affiliation and Development Department within seven days regarding this complaint.
"Taking additional fees without the permission of the State Government and the University is a criminal offence under the Indian Code of Justice and the Indian Civil Security Code. The extra education fees collected should be returned to the students immediately," said Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena's state chief organiser Santosh Gangurde.
