Pre-monsoon rains lashed Mumbai on Wednesday morning. Monsoon will arrive in Maharashtra in the next few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a yellow alert for Thursday. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of thunderstorms with lightning over Mumbai as well as neighbouring districts of Thane and Raigad.


The maximum temperature in the city and its suburbs is close to 36 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. In Mumbai on Wednesday morning, light showers fell in some parts of the city and waterlogged in some parts. Along with this, there was drizzle in Thane district as well.


According to data presented by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), western suburbs and Mumbai received the highest rainfall followed by eastern suburbs. Between 7.00 am and 8.00 am, the station at Oshiwara in the western suburbs recorded 26 mm of rain, followed by 9 mm at Kandivali Fire Station, 6 mm at Kandivali Workshop, 5 mm at BKC Fire Station and 4 mm at K/East Ward Office.

In the western suburbs, Dadar Fire Station received 20 mm, followed by Wadala Fire Station 17 mm, F/North Division Office 16 mm and Rawali Camp 19 mm. Meanwhile, the eastern suburbs recorded less than 5 mm of rain.


According to meteorologists, pre-monsoon conditions and westerlies are causing cloud formation in Mumbai. After entering Karnataka on Sunday, senior IMD has indicated that Southwest Monsoon is likely to enter Maharashtra and Goa this week. It has indicated favourable conditions for the onset of monsoon in Mumbai between June 8 and 11. However, the date of onset of monsoon in Mumbai has not been announced yet.


Usually the official date of onset of monsoon in Mumbai is 10-11 June. However, the start was delayed by two weeks last year due to several weather systems, including Cyclone Biporjoy.
