Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde on Wednesday, October 9, had announced that a Sukhoi fighter jet will take off from the Navi Mumbai international airport. He made these statements in an event in Nagpur during which Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone of various development projects in the poll-bound state.
For the trial run of the newly built air strip, a C 295 defense transport aircraft from Gandhinagar and Sukhoi MK 30 fighter aircraft from Pune are being specially flown in.
The inaugural ceremony is happening just a month after the Airport Authority of India (AAI) completed the Instrument Landing System (ILS) testing at the airport.
Initially the inauguration was to coincide with the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 5. However, it was postponed for technical reasons.
The Navi Mumbai international airport near Mumbai is currently under construction. It is expected to be operational by March next year, officials had said earlier.
Meanwhile, a few days ago, on October 7, a meeting was chaired by Ministry of Civil Aviation alongside Union Minister for Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu ji regarding Govt. of Maharashtra’s resolution to Navi Mumbai International Airport.
