The long wait for Navi Mumbaikars to travel by air will finally end on April 17. Vijay Singhal, providing updates on the matter, announced plans to commence passenger and cargo transportation from this date.
“This airport will have twice the capacity of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The first phase will accommodate 20 million passengers annually. With 84% of the terminal building work completed, all four terminals are interconnected through automated systems,” he stated.
Arun Bansal, Group CEO of Adani Airport Holdings Limited, also confirmed the April 17 launch.
“We have set April 17 as the target for the inauguration of Navi Mumbai Airport. The inauguration is planned within 70 days of obtaining the Air Permit, which is expected by February 6,” Bansal told The Indian Express.
On December 28, a significant milestone was achieved as a commercial aircraft successfully landed at the Navi Mumbai Airport for the first time. This marked the beginning of takeoff and landing tests as part of the airport’s performance evaluations.
An IndiGo A-320 aircraft successfully landed on one of the two runways at 1:39 PM on Sunday. The test was conducted with the presence of the Director General of Civil Aviation, technicians, and staff aboard the aircraft.
