The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has asked residents to fill an online residential parking survey form to help finalize the parking policy. The survey is being conducted to understand the current parking situation and meet the growing demand for parking space.

Initially constructed by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), buildings in Navi Mumbai have little space for four-wheelers. Roads are narrow in many nodes like Vashi which was developed earlier.

Several public interest litigations (PILs) were filed in the Bombay High Court regarding the parking rules in the NMMC development plan. An expert committee was constituted following the High Court's December 2023 order. This expert committee will survey and study the problems of parking in residential areas of the governing body. It will then submit its recommendations to the NMMC and the government.

Municipal Commissioner Kailas Shinde has formed a committee and held several meetings to prepare a questionnaire for the residents. “NMMC strives to uplift the standard of living of all citizens of Navi Mumbai. We are doing a comprehensive study on parking demand in the city to improve the infrastructure,” Shinde said.

An online survey link is provided for residents to respond. So that the committee can incorporate their suggestions in their recommendations for parking policy and measures to be taken by NMMC.

Where do residents live in this survey? The number of vehicles they own, the parking space available in their housing societies and localities, their parking problems and their suggestions for improving the situation have been taken.

“The opinion of residents is invaluable. Because it will help us understand the current parking situation and develop effective strategies to meet the increasing demand for parking space. We urge residents to participate in the online survey in large numbers as their time and participation in this important initiative is vital. Together, we can create a more livable and accessible Navi Mumbai,” said Shinde.
